recycling

OCCA works to promote awareness about the need for recycling and opportunities to so. We encourage municipalities to provide street bins for container recycling, and due to our efforts, the villages of Cooperstown and Milford as well as the City of Oneonta now operate programs for this purpose. OCCA has researched, designed and widely distributed “Recycling: Above and Beyond,” a guide for places to which local residents may take items not included in the county recycling program. OCCA was also instrumental in the establishment of the county’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day and continues to recruit volunteer help essential to the operations of the event. OCCA has informed the public about special battery recycling opportunities and assisted with the recycling of more than seven tons of used books left over from the Village of Cooperstown’s annual book sale.
