Make it stand out
Science Fair
On April 20, 2024, OCCA will host a county-wide science fair for interested K-12 students at the Milford Central School in conjunction with the Earth Festival.
The Science Fair provides an opportunity to research any topic in the fields of Environmental Science or Earth Science that students wish to learn about in detail. Participation and preparation for the science fair will develop several valuable skills. Participants will answer a scientific question by conducting an experiment, and by doing so, they may integrate science, math, computer, research, and presentation skills. The detailed guides below will show how to break a chosen project into manageable portions and spread it out over time. The guides will also help formulate a question and set up an experiment. For topic ideas, click HERE or HERE.
General Requirements:
Students can work independently or in groups of two, three, or four students.
Any student or group interested in participating must submit a proposal by March 1. Click on the link below to fill out the form linked below. Each group is required to submit one proposal.
You will be required to assemble a tri-fold display. Trifold Project Boards will be made available for purchase through Amazon, and OCCA can help you source them.
You will be required to give an oral presentation to judges at the Science Fair. The Science Fair will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2024. You will be assigned a time for your presentation.
Your project will be scored based on content and organization. Projects with the highest score in their grade and category will receive awards. Judging rubrics will be posted here closer to April 20.
